6 Tips for Managing Stress

How do you deal with stress? Being under too much stress or dealing with stress for long periods of time can be unhealthy. Some stress is normal, but overtime too much can directly impact your quality of life. We've all experienced different levels of stress at different times in our lives’. Whether it’s at work, school, or home certain instances can attribute to varying degrees of stress-related issues. Unfortunately most of us are unable to live a “stress-free” life, so we are forced to develop coping mechanisms to deal with life’s challenges in a positive and healthy way.

We have found that there are some simple ways to help reduce stress in your life, which can help you stay better prepared for stressful situations:

  • Prioritize things in your life.
Understand what it is that is most important in your life, and place emphasis on it. Don’t become overwhelmed by the minor things, and focus on the essential items. This applies to all areas of your life, especially in your profession.
  • Stay Organized.
Sounds simple enough, right? Although this tip sounds simple, it’s often times not easy to accomplish. Becoming organized takes added stress off forgetting appointments or important tasks. In today’s smart-phone eccentric era there are tons of great productivity apps that can act as your personal assistant reminding you of all the things you need to stay on top off.
  • Stop Procrastinating.
I’ll be perfectly honest; this one is much easier said than done. From the cram sessions in college to the late nights in the office, these stressful crunch-times can often times be avoided. Start by taking large projects and breaking them into pieces. Then create a schedule and stick to it, so it’s not so overwhelming.
  • Leave Your Work at the Office.
After you punch out, make sure to “unplug” when you leave work. Avoid checking work emails or dealing with problems at the office while you’re at home.
  • Save Time for Yourself.
Life can seem a bit overwhelming at times, especially if you have a demanding job and hectic family life. An important thing to remember is that you need free-time in your life to do the things that you enjoy. The more time you spend recharging from your stressful situation, the better suited you’ll be to deal with it.
  • Make Sure to Get Enough Sleep.
If you’re always tired, stressful situations can seem unbearable. Getting enough sleep can keep your mind fresh and full of energy. It also helps the body naturally reset and rejuvenate itself.
