Over 40 years ago, scientists uncovered the most potent anti-oxidant and this time, it wasn’t found in a vegetable garden. Instead the miracle was discovered below sea level. Astaxanthin, a carotenoid found in salmon, shrimp, and trout, has an anti-oxidant strength that is 6,000 times stronger than vitamin C. Astaxanthin has been linked to better skin, improved vision, lower risk of heart disease, and improved immune system. Is it too good to be true or truly good?
The short story of free radicals and anti-oxidants
In our body, below the cell’s surface, at the atomic level, chemical reactions occur by releasing dangerous free radicals. Fortunately, we have anti-oxidants to knock out free radicals and stop the oxidative stress. Oxidative stress, which is believed to be associated with aging, is the collective term for physiological stress caused by free radical damage. When there is an increased exposure to pollution, sun radiation, herbicides, or alcohol, there is a subsequent increase of free radical production which our body can’t keep up with. Unopposed oxidative stress can lead to damaged skin cells, immune cells, and sperm cells to name a few.
Damaged cells will lose their ability to function whether it is protecting you from the sun’s radiation, blocking out cold viruses, or fertilizing your eggs. Damaged cells eventually die off, leaving room for healthy new cells. However, as long as free radicals remain free, the new cells will not last long. The best way to knock out these free radicals is to replenish anti-oxidants in our body. You can eat foods that are high in anti-oxidants or take Asta-X Plus™ once a day. Foods rich in anti-oxidants include prunes, raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, cloves, walnuts, and blueberries. To reap the benefits of anti-oxidants, you would need to eat these foods every day or just take two Asta-X Plus™ 6 mg chewable tablets daily.
As a clinical pharmacist, I’m all about studies. If it works, you can measure the results and replicate them. You can imagine my surprise when I came across a 2012 study where women took astaxanthin 6 mg every day for 8 weeks. They noticed an improvement in wrinkles (Crow’s feet), age spot size (flat brown spots), and elasticity. Similar results were also found in another study involving men.
A Japanese study revealed healthy subjects (40 years old and up) taking astaxanthin 4 mg and 12 mg every day for 28 days had an improvement in their uncorrected far visual acuity. In short, these patients were able to see the eye chart better without glasses!
Anti-oxidants have a lot of promise in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease includes heart attacks, heart failure, strokes, abnormal heart rhythms, and heart valve problems. Without anti-oxidants, free radicals will oxidize LDL (bad cholesterol), causing inflammation along the walls of the arteries, attracting other immune cells to stick to the wall and forming atherosclerotic plaques. Plaques restrict blood flow or in severe cases, stop blow flow and cause a heart attack or stroke. The combination of a low-fat diet and an anti-oxidant such as Asta-X Plus™ is recommended if you can’t tolerate cholesterol-lowering medications or prefer an alternative approach to lowering your risk of cardiovascular disease.
In 2010, a Washington State University study revealed that in healthy women, astaxanthin enhanced the activity of natural killer cells which seek and destroy tumor cells and virus-infected cells. The common cold and flu are caused by viruses so it makes sense that astaxanthin can help you recover faster from a cold or flu.
What else can Asta-X Plus™ do?
Astaxanthin can increase your chances of getting pregnant by 5 times! In a clinical study, men took astaxanthin 16 mg every day for 3 months and noted a significantly higher pregnancy rate (54.5%) in women whose partners took astaxanthin compared to partners who didn’t take astaxanthin (10.5%).
Astaxanthin is truly good with many benefits for the skin, immune system, vision, heart and fertility. Since astaxanthin is not available in stores, save time and buy Asta-X Plus™ online at Sundita today!
